The Navigator

The Navigator is an online newspaper and collaborative platform covering climate, democracy, science, innovation, and the surprising intersections between geopolitics and local experience.

We are proud to highlight the fact that The Navigator was established in 2025, because it is a response to the ongoing moment of multiple converging crises, in which the risk to all of us is exacerbated by an unprecedented level of coordinated and pervasive disinformation.

The least understood detail of the sustainability revolution is the fact that the actions that will help secure a livable future for those many future generations are also the best way for us to live well, free, and safely, today. How we navigate this time will depend on the facts we have and the stories we tell ourselves and each other. We need honest research, access to evidence, thoughtful analysis of what is at stake, and institutions that are comfortable with complexity.

The Navigator humbly proposes to be part of that much needed information landscape, an example of the new standard we need, rooted in proven methods of journalistic fact-finding and reportage, adding new elements of the multidimensional research and strategic foresight needed for facing the challenges of our moment of deep and far-reaching consequence.

The name refers not to any of its authors, not to a presumption of superior skill or knowledge, but rather to the collective need we have for insight into how we steer our Spaceship Earth, and our local experience, through this time of tumult and tension. Regardless of your political perspective, regardless of whom you hold responsible, you have an interest in knowing as much as you can about the state of our world, and understanding how sweeping trends affect what is possible to you locally.

The Navigator community of writers, reporters, advocates, and institutions, will offer you our best available insights, to honor that need. We will bring you news of the day, political analysis, science, innovation, economics, and new perspectives on the evolving landscape of planetary emergency and of common-sense local problem-solving suited to enduring liberty and wellbeing.

Be Prepared.

Sustainability challenges are livability challenges. Entire economies fail to work efficiently or durably, if returns on investment do not include real-life improvements to everyday experience. Be prepared to make those improvements.

The Endangerment Finding is a formal recognition by the US Environmental Protection Agency that climate disruption poses a threat to human health and safety. Geodesiq Strategies for Healthy, Sustainable Food Systems Food is woven into virtually all areas of human experience. Opportunity is everywhere—the resilience economy is emerging

Communities everywhere need risk reduction and resilience measures.  Green infrastructure—including soil biomass and well-rooted forests, mangroves in coastal areas prone to tropical storms, and mountain glaciers that serve as stable headwaters for healthy watersheds—is essential for maintaining human security and prosperity. Costs of climate inaction are reaching record levels, so even governments that wish to deprioritize climate…
